Five Vanderbilt Engineering Students Win Competition
Five Vanderbilt engineering students brought home $250 last spring for
best student entry in a high-speed airplane competition at Tennessee
Technological University. The assignment was to design and construct
a high-speed aircraft with specific requirements. Each model used the
same engine to ensure it was the design that affected performance. The
student aircraft, named the V-2, reached speeds in excess of 150 mph.
Ephrahim Garcia, associate professor of mechanical engineering, left,
advised the students, and the mechanical engineering department purchased
the materials and equipment needed for construction.
