John Y. DusenberrySiegel High School AP Calculus & Advanced Honors Pre-Calculus Dr. Adam Anderson Institute of Imaging Sciences My research project involved gathering data concerning the use of MRI’s of the brain to measure water diffusion as a means to determine damage caused by Multiple Sclerosis. I used the Phillips Pride software package to create analyzable data sets. I then created tables and various charts to represent the collected data. Curriculum Summary Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) can measure water diffusion and map white matter fiber bundles of axons in the brain by sensing the velocity of diffusing water. This velocity data is used to create three dimensional mappings of the bundles. In my module students will be introduced to the connection between velocity and position. Using various forms of data (numeric, graphic, and analytic) and various forms of technology (graphing calculator, calculator based ranger, GPS receiver) students will produce position data to include mappings of the movement of objects.
