Master of engineering
The Master of Engineering is an advanced professional degree program that combines the best aspects of an advanced professional degree with the flexibility of continuing education to prepare professionals for higher-level engineering practice. The program places strong emphasis on advanced technology, design and business-related courses.

The degree program is especially suited to:

  • Engineering practitioners who wish to pursue part-time graduate study while continuing to work full time;
  • Individuals who wish to pursue a graduate engineering degree on a full-time basis;
  • Recent graduates who want to prepare for professional engineering practice while continuing work on an advanced degree;
  • Upper-division undergraduates who want to combine undergraduate and graduate study in the Integrated B.E/M.E. Degree Program.

  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Environmental Engineering
  • Management of Technology
  • Materials Science and Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

Admission Requirements

Those applying directly from undergraduate school must be graduated with a B average in engineering or a related scientific discipline.

Those applying for admission to the integrated B.E./M.E. Degree program may apply during their senior year of undergraduate study in engineering or related discipline. They must have a B average in courses relevant to their major program.

Applicants enrolling after a period of work experience must submit a record of satisfactory undergraduate performance and three letters of recommendation attesting to their professional experience.

A maximum of six hours of graduate-level work may be transferred from another institution. Residence requirements are determined by the major program.

Degree Requirements

A minimum of 30 semester hours is required. These credits include a minimum of 15 semester hours in the candidate's major area of study, a minimum of six semester hours of design, which must include a design project. A research thesis is not required.
