SAVY Spring 2009 Schedule

The Saturday Academy provides a dynamic, fast-paced curriculum experience to qualifying gifted children in grades K–6.

An engineering class will be held six Saturday mornings in a row, Feb. 7 through March 14, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at University School of Nashville, on the corner of 21st Avenue and Edgehill, across the street from the Vanderbilt campus.

Grades 5-6 -- Connected: Wiring, Electricity, and More

Imagine that you are a newly hired engineer for the local power company. The city wants to build a special recreational complex for kids and they need your help. There is a lot to learn about how to design and wire the complex so that it passes inspection and can withstand the stresses of weather and people. Take on the role of an electrical engineer and learn about currents, circuitry and electricity. Design your own electrical system for the new recreational building, but watch out - you never know when a storm may hit. Can your design withstand it?
