Alum named Tennessee’s Outstanding Engineer of the Year

Stephen C. Lane, PE, DEE, has been named Outstanding Engineer of the Year  by the Nashville chapter of the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE).

Lane, executive vice president of Smith Seckman Reid (SSR), received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s in environmental and water resources engineering from Vanderbilt University in 1991.

As the highest honor given by the TSPE, the Outstanding Engineer Award is designated for a professional who demonstrates outstanding service and support to their society and profession. 

Lane directs a division of SSR that includes the firm’s civil, environmental, sports and entertainment, industrial, commercial, commissioning, transportation and structural engineering services.  

He specializes in water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment and collection, National Pollutant Discharge Eliminating System permitting, industrial pre-treatment and long-range planning studies.  

Lane is a registered professional engineer in 16 states and is affiliated with the American Council of Engineering Companies, American Water Works Association, American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, American Public Works Association, Tennessee Water and Wastewater Association and as a Diplomat in the American Academy of Environmental Engineers. 

Lane serves as a diplomat for the American Academy of Environmental Engineers, and is a graduate of the Senior Executive Institute of the American Council of Engineering Companies.  Lane also serves on the board of directors for ACEC of Tennessee and the Middle Tennessee Ronald McDonald Home. 

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. (SSR), headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., is an employee-owned engineering design and facility consulting firm with 500 employees in 11 offices across the United States.
