Project Title:

Content Protection for Video Sensor Networks

Primary Investigators:

Yuan Xue and Yi Cui

Brief Description of Project:

In video sensor networks, each sensor is equipped with a camera which canprovide important visual information. This useful technology has broadapplication in the fields of environmental monitoring, health care, military operations, and security surveillance, etc. Video sensor networkis now becoming a public information source on the Internet. Many urgentcontent protection issues arise, mainly due to the sensitivity and theprivacy natures associated with the sensor content.

This project aims to provide content protection for video sensor networks. We will investigate light-weighted real-time encryption and authenticationtechnologies. The proposed solution needs to be robust for data fusion andresilient to wireless random loss. We will implement and evaluate oursolution in a real video sensor network testbed.

Nature of Supervision:

One-to-one discussion and working with graduate students

A Brief Research Plan (period is for 10 weeks):

1-2: Study the background of video sensor networks, and learn aboutthe real-time multimedia encryption algorithms.

3-4: Develop the encryption and authentication algorithm.

5-6: Prototype the proposed solution in video sensors.

7-10: Perform experiments and document the research results.
