Summer 2008 Research
Opportunities

Application Form

Project Title:

Human-Robotic Interface

Primary Investigators:

Julie A. Adams

Brief Description of Project:

The long term objective of this project is to develop a user interface that allows a single human to supervise a large number of unmanned vehicles, both ground and aerial. This summer project will focus on designing and developing a portion of the overall interface to support the presentation of information from and interaction with a multiple robot coordination algorithm. The coordination algorithm determines how to assign robots to tasks with specified roles that contribute to the task. The results of this project will be employed in a live field exercise with ground based robots sometime during Summer 2008.

Nature of Supervision:

Work with Dr. Adams and her research group (graduate students).

A Brief Research Plan (period is for 10 weeks):

An undergraduate student working on this project will be involved with understanding the existing multiple robot coordination algorithm; work with Dr. Adams and a graduate student to design, implement, and test the interface between the human, the algorithm and the robots. The student involved with this project will gain experience with a number of software development tools and the design and implementation of interface interactions and algorithms. The student will also gain knowledge of working with ground-based robots. The student will be provided opportunities to demonstrate the resulting system and will contribute to the writing of a conference paper.
