Summer 2008 Research
Opportunities

Application Form

Project Title:

Embedded System Tools

Primary Investigators:

Research Assistant Professor Ted Bapty

Brief Description of Project:

Embedded systems drive nearly every consumer device,
often performing a critical function. Specialized
processors and the software that runs on them are at
the core of the embedded system.

The software for an embedded processor presents significant
engineering challenges: Interfacing to real-world devices,
operating on a strict time schedule, and minimal memory are
just a few of the system constraints. At ISIS we are developing
tools to assist in the development of embedded software.

The summer researcher will apply and test these tools, building
an embedded system application. The student will become familiar
with the hardware (digital signal processors), standard development
tools (C compiler/assembler), and the ISIS Model-Integrated
Computing tools. Applications include software-radio and
high-energy physics data analysis.

Nature of Supervision:

Work directly with graduate students, interactions
with ISIS research staff.

Number of Open Slots:

2-3
