Project Title:

Applying Diamond Films to Make Advanced MEMS Devices

Primary Investigators:

Professors Jim Davidson, W.P. Kang, Tim Fisher

Brief Description of Project:

This project will apply the technology established in our microelectronics laboratory to create active MEMS (Micro-electro Mechanical Systems) devices out of diamond. Diamond can be used to make devices that are biocompatable, faster, stronger, more sensitive and even cheaper than other approaches. The specific objectives of the program are to:

- Support design of D-MEMS device configuration using PZQ effect

- Suggest setup and perform tests that support evaluation of diamond response to stimulus

- Support microscopic analysis of varied diamond layer combinations

Nature of Supervision:

One-on-one

A Brief Research Plan (period is for 10 weeks):

Weeks 1-2:  Learn how applied diamond is processed, support device and experimental design.

Weeks 3-5:  Conduct measurements of devices.

Weeks 6-10:  Analyze and report findings

Number of Open Slots:
