Project Title:

Datacenter design for green operation

Primary Investigators:

Assistant Professor Greg Walker

Brief Description of Project:

Power consumption in datacenter operations account for 3% of the US GDP. Therefore, efficient use of the power for cooling can have a tremendous impact on global energy availability and the environment. CFD analysis of the datacenter on Vanderbilt's campus will be used to design expansion plans that minimize the amount of energy required. In particular, placement of computer racks and cooling units will be optimized to provide the requisite cooling while eliminating cold spots to reduce the power footprint of the datacenter.
