Project Title:

Environmental risk assessment of atmospheric ammonia release

Primary Investigators:

Assistant Professor Greg Walker

Brief Description of Project:

Gaseous ammonia, which is used by numerous industries can be hazardous and even fatal if released into the atmosphere in sufficient quantities. A CFD study of plume release and dispersal near facilities occupied by people will be conducted. In particular, we want to assess the danger to industry workers given particular atmospheric conditions (wind velocity and direction) and ammonia release rates. Results of the study will be used to create disaster recovery plans for a large-scale industrial site.
