Optional Peripherals
Additional peripherals are not
required as a part of the
program.
In
particular, we strongly discourage
you from purchasing a replacement
hard disk drive, because it will
make your computer much more
difficult to support.
If
you would like to purchase
additional software and hardware to
supplement your Dell Latitude
computer, please keep these
considerations in mind:

If
you are not sure what you want
or need, wait until you have
used the system for a while
before deciding which
peripherals you will purchase.
By waiting, you can arrange to
have your purchases shipped
directly to the university and
won't need to bring them with
you from home.

If you wish to ship your
purchases directly to the
Vanderbilt campus, please follow
these
instructions beginning on
page 55.

You may find that an extra
battery will come in handy. Dell
batteries have a one year
warranty and in general have
diminished capacity after that
time. Also useful would be a
port replicator or docking
station. We recommend that you
obtain these from Dell to ensure
compatibility. Note that any
item you purchase from Dell will
have Dell's standard warranty
and will not be covered by your
Dell 4 Year Complete Care
Warranty.

You may also find that a padded
backpack and an inkjet printer
will be useful items. We have no
specific recommendation as to
the source of these items, but
it's advisable to select a
backpack that is easily
distinguishable.
